Jr Returns!

Today when I lifted with Bo, it wasn't right at the time the track team was coming in so it wasn't incredibly busy. This was perfect because it gave me the opportunity to actually work with Bo and make sure I was doing things correctly. It's awesome that when you finally learn the techniques properly, you can engage the muscles you really need and coincidently the ones you need for running. It's funny that sometimes when he's telling me to fix or change something I'm doing, I'll do another rep and get the feedback that it's right and know how to replicate it but not necessarily know exactly what it was I did differently. But when it happens right, you can feel it where Bo says you should. It's great to work with someone who knows so much about it and while I want to understand as much as I can about what we're doing, also know that I can trust him to lead me where we want me to go.

Jr made a guest appearance today, we ran from the track and the four of us tooled around the golf course, the trails behind Pioneer and another set of fields beyond that. It was a great day for a run, sunny and warm but with a cool breeze. Jr and I worked on our tans but he had to get to class and couldn't join in on the ice tub. It's great to have him run with us, the only problem is that at least until Brandon gets here, Jr is so much more tan than the rest of us, it's a bit disheartening. Jr is so enthusiastic about what he's doing and excited to get in better shape. It'll be fun when we pace him for a time trial.

It was funny being around the track when the team is practicing but not really being part of the program any longer. We're all working on the same thing, trying to run as fast as possible, or jump or throw but the team has the structure of a conference, of travel and races coordinated for them with little to worry about, aside from the enormity of classes of course. And while there is no conference meet to prepare for, there is a structure that we have created within our group, and a pursuit of doing things well, some of us on a different level than others with Nick and Lee heading to the Commonwealth Games in a few weeks. And while sometimes it's disheartening to be so far behind, as I said to Ron the other day, "if you ask me to do something great, I'll find a way to get there, or give everything in the pursuit of it". Like Nick said to me, it's really about the journey and about the learning that takes place along the way.
